And it can’t be work-hardened either. Would love to know whether the posts get bent with use. Let me know, thanks, Bianca Reply ↓ Elaine on February 25, 2009 at 1:43 pm said: The way I would add earring posts to metal clay earrings is to solder them on after they (the metal clay earrings) are fired. Sterling silver cannot be fired in place with metal clay. And yes, fine silver wire is not the best choice for earring posts. But I know that not everyone wants to/is ready to learn to solder, so I thought I’d share the link anyway. I would expect them to get bent and that the owner would need to straighten them out with pliers now and then. Reply ↓ Bianca Terranova on February 25, 2009 at 6:34 pm said: Thanks for clarifying. I also usually solder posts on after the metal clay is sintered, and I often use steel posts with a pad. These can actually go in the kiln before firing the earings, after being attached to the clay with thick slip or combination of slip and a circle/donut of clay or paperclay. They are very strong and have no “bend” in them at all. And they are cheap, hypoallergenic, and easier to “install” because they have a pad at the base.
