Favorite Technique: Blog Carnival
What’s my favorite technique? The one I just learned. Or the one I’m reading about now and about to try.
Isn’t that always the way? Craft is about technique and process and always learning. That’s one of the things I love about metalsmithing and metal clay. There’s always more to learn.
To name one specific one — I like the technique in metal clay of attaching pieces without using slip. Using fresh or completely dry clay, you just get the areas you want to join really wet, and then press and hold them together.
Faster, and potentially neater than using slip.
In metalsmithing, I like using the hydraulic press, because it’s just so cool! 6,000 psi! Shape metal without a hammer!
How about you? Post your faves in the comments, thanks!

“The one I just learned.” Perfect response, and so true!!
This reminds me of my grandmother. When asked who her favorite grandchild was, she’d always say “whichever one I have in my arms at the moment”. She passed away a little over a year ago. I still miss her.

What a sweet answer your grandmother had, I like that.
