Beer and Nails?
Here’s what’s on my workbench: cheap beer and a box of not-galvanized nails.
Why? It’s for a patina I’m making. The recipe is in Japanese Patinas, a beautiful book on patinas for non-precious, non-ferrous metals. (what does that leave? copper, brass and bronze, mostly.) Now I just need some daikon…
Amusingly, I first thought with the photo your were going to try flint knapping! When I learned to make an arrow in experimental archaeology class, I started with the same things – beer bottles and nails!
Here’s what I’m talking about – it’s the alternate way in step 2:

Interesting, thanks!
That is so cool! I’ve aged copper with ammonia before but not beer and nails. Will have to check that book out!
Thanks Cindy, have fun!
