Ira Glass on Storytelling from David Shiyang Liu on Vimeo.
A friend posted an amazing poster, which led me to the video version, above.
Here’s a link to a larger version of the poster.
Update, 9/8/13: Here’s the quote, set to a comic: http://zenpencils.com/comic/90-ira-glass-advice-for-beginners
Elaine, this is my absolute favorite bit of Ira Glass wisdom EVER. I have re-told this narrative to so many people since I first heard it. What a wonderfully logical approach to a situation that is fraught with emotional landmines. Brilliant! Thanks for posting it and reminding me.
UGH. Thank you.
This is for the times when you’ve created something and people around you think you’re NUTS. They say it’s great, wonderful, unique, amazing, and creative, and on and on. But you are not moved b/cause while it may be good, YOU know it just doesn’t yet hit the mark.
Thank you. Well said.
You’re welcome guys! Thanks for your comments!
Thank you for posting this. It really hit home with me. Being somewhat of a perfectionist doesn’t help either. I printed the poster and will hang it in my studio for the times I get the creative block blues. (they should teach this in every art class!)
@Marcia, Thank you for letting me know! I love that you pinned it up.
