While I’m still making and selling jewelry, my primary focus right now is on my other art forms: assemblage sculpture, collage paintings and learning how to do large scale public art. Plus my growing roster of public speaking gigs.
This puts me in a difficult spot because I have readers here who I don’t want to disappoint, and more subscribers arrive all the time. Oddly, I’ve been posting less than usual, but have more new subscribers than usual.
I started this blog in 2007, as a way to drive traffic to my then-online tool shop. I later shut down the shop but kept the blog, because it was fun.
In 2015, I have to ask myself, how can I best serve my readers, if I’m not actually working with metal clay as my primary art form right now?
For now, I’ll keep posting at least once a month, but I’d love to here from you. Anybody out there? Please comment! What types of posts do you find the most helpful? Would you miss the blog if it disappeared?
Your comment might just make the difference!
Elaine – we are out here! 😉 I think it’s the natural order of things to grown and evolve, and sometimes that means a change of media. I definitely say I’m an artist, not a metal clay person or a jeweler or a bead maker or any of the various things I’ve done over the years.
Just carry on down your path, and please write about the process. Those whose paths diverge will cease to follow, but I find that the process itself is quite similar regardless of media, so there’s often something to learn from friends taking these diversions.
Happy 2015!
Thanks Vickie! I just this moment finished my year in review on my other blog: http://elainelutherart.com/2015/01/2014-in-review
Yes, I often look to you as a model of someone who works in many media! You seem to balance it all well and present it in a cohesive way.
Thanks for commenting, I really appreciate it!
Well definitely I’d miss you, but not the metal clay per se…you! So as long as I can find you somewhere, no problem. No one should apologize when their interests change and morph over time 🙂
Thanks Cyndi! I’ll be blogging at ElaineLutherArt.com and since readers are being encouraging, it looks like I’ll still be here in some form! Thanks!
I agree. Post about whatever you’re doing or interested in… I like art and creativity of all sorts, I don’t care what media it’s in. It’s all inspiring. 🙂
Thanks Christy! I appreciate your encouragement!
I too enjoy your posts regardless of content on silver clay. I too have put away my jewelry making though it was in order to care for my aging mother who has dementia. I am finding I need an artistic release though to balance my life so I am doing other things for the time being that do not require the studio since that has been temporarily taken over. I would enjoy hearing updates on your progress so please if you can continue to do so. And at any rate, thank you for all that you have already shared. I have enjoyed it.
Thank you CJ! Sorry to hear about your mom. Yes, I agree, caregivers need art! I’m glad you’re finding time for yourself to make art. Thanks so much for your thanks, comment and encouragement! Readers have been encouraging and flexible, I think I’ll find a way to keep posting. Thanks!
I agree with Vickie! I really enjoy your blog, Elaine, and it does ‘t matter if it’s not about metal clay. You always have interesting things to talk about! And regardless of our media at any given time, we are all artists and can be inspired by any kind of artistic endeavor. Thanks for all of your inspiration thus far!
Thanks so much Katie! I really appreciate your encouragement and thanks!
Dear Elaine,
Creating art has many paths (and mediums)… we were just fortunate that yours crossed ours via your blog!
Fortunately, you have listed your new blog, for which I know I will choose to follow.
I appreciate the style & perspective that you share.
Happy Adventures in your new mediums!!!
Cheers,
Sheila
Wow, I should retire a blog every day, thanks for sweet comment! I really appreciate it! Thanks for joining me on the new blog! Best of luck to you on your artistic journey as well.
