I am in my second studio/home since joining the amazing world of making jewelry. My kids and I lived in our town home. I converted my dining/sitting room into an office/studio space. Perfect! We ate in the kitchen and sat in the living room. A year later..alot more discovering..leads to acquiring more tools..more stones/beads, a place for the kiln, the tumbler..and yes..easy access to a sink! How divine to have it in your studio!
It's been 4 months since the move to where my 2nd studio is. re-married, four kids instead of two, big house- and same space! When we first moved-the room that is my studio was the "I don't know where to put this-leave it here" room. It is the dining room, open to the kitchen, near the front door-garage door and stairs to the basement. My biggest challenge is to not get distracted with everyone walking by and walking in. The panels I have hung in the opening for a sense of privacy are just too fun for my 5yr. old to play with! I feel the size of the space doesn't make for the "perfect" studio-it's about the use of the space-any space. As for the organization, I had to let that part go if I wanted to feel any creativity flow. I am OCD with my space/house being organized and clean, except for my studio. It's an act of healing for me to just be creative and not think of the mess. I would say its good having different studios through the years...you learn what you need..how you need it to be and get rid of the rest. I already know I wish I had cement floors!(I had real ease on the hardwoods before) To not be able to slide in the chair around the space is frustrating..just doesn't work on carpet! A wish list is good. :-)
