Art and Fear
It seems that a lot of people are feeling stuck right about now, it’s a topic that keeps coming up on blogs and forums. Here are some links to blog posts that were shared on Metal Clay Gallery.
From Catherine Davies Paetz:
Trusting the Process

Creative Block #5 – Being Disorganized
And here, reprinted from a previous post of mine, is my review of the book, Art and Fear:
Art and Fear: Observations on the Perils (and Rewards) of Artmaking by David Bayles and Ted Orland
I love this book, but I haven’t quite finished it, because everytime I read it, I get so motiviated, I put it down and go make something.
It’s a slim volume, only 118 pages, and inexpensive. A great book, even if you think you don’t have issues or fears. Who couldn’t use a little more inspiration and motiviation? And no exercises to do, just read, think, and go make art.

I totally love that book. I’ve been following the discussion on the metal clay list, but haven’t weighed in on it. “read, think, and go make art” sounds really good to me
I am the quilty one who started the Art and Fear discussion. The reaction it got took me by surprise! I have The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron (still reading it….) and the artist girlfriend I mentioned in my initial post suggested I read “Art and Fear.” Maybe a lot of people are feeling “stuck” because of the weather (just plain depressing outside). I love Cameron’s suggesion about keeping a journal, but I’m also with blog reader Cyndi – just read, think and go make art. I hear the new wing at the Chicago Art Institute is fab, so maybe I’ll go treat myself on one of these ugly-coming-out-of-winter-blues days! If anyone is interested in joining me, just send me an email.
