At the Self-Employment in the Arts Conference, (SEA) in addition to giving two speeches and serving on numerous panels, I also installed this Before I Die… wall with help from Emily Garman.
Before I Die is a project by artist Candy Chang, who encourages replication. There have been over 500 walls in over 70 countries! See BeforeIDie.cc if you want to learn more.
Walls are usually installed on chalkboard, but we took advantage of existing windows at the hotel and installed it this way, using liquid chalk.
Here are more pictures of the wall once college students attending the conference filled in the blanks:

And like all ephemeral art, it was washed off by the end of the conference:

The speeches I gave this year were “Forgo Grant Funding and Make Your Project Happen!” “My Life in Visual Art,” and was on panels on networking, social media and alternative income streams. Plus a one on one mentoring session, which is one of my favorites.
More posts to come on all the great tips from the conference.
